Well today after some driving my clutch started to slip while taking off in first gear, i did a search but didnt find much on how much i will be looking at to replace the clutch. IT is also a little hard changing from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd, i am guessing my sychros are going to. I need to call a transmission shop, but thought i would ask you guys first, all the shops are closed now. Thanks! And what type of clutch do you guys recommend? Thanks again!

Last time I paid someone to do a clutch job was a few years ago but I think it was in the neighborhood of $300-$400, including parts.
I'd recommend an OEM type replacement clutch. Mazda sells a complete set for reasonable money.
Where are you located? Maybe we can recommend a shop.

Maybe i should explain my problem so i know what i am looking at, it was actually stupid what i did, but i am 18 so give me a break....lol. I was doing a burnout, which i dont do often, but it was raining outside etc..... I brang it up to 3500 rpm and popped the clutch, well i got my burnout, but also a wierd noise, and a car that shakes when taking off in first gear, it is fine once in gear, even shifting from 1st-5th is fine, but taking off it shakes, like it is slipping, Does this sound like a clutch, or did i ruin first gear some how....thanks for all the help, I am a broke kid that needs his car....hahah

Ah well, that $400 is Florida money. That could well be $600-$800 in Northern California money.
Yeah, doing burnouts is the quick way to ruin your clutch. I don't think you damaged your transmission, though.
If the clutch is slipping you will first notice it when you try to accelerate in a higher gear, like 5th. The RPMs will go way up but you won't accelerate at all. Once it gets to that stage it won't be long before you find yourself stranded. If it's just shuddering when you take off from a stop, you probably have "glazed" the surface of the clutch. You might be able to drive it like that for a long time, although you certainly have shortened the life of the clutch.

| Sounds like broken springs in the clutch to me. Reving and popping the clutch will do that. The springs are designed to soften the engagement, but are easly damaged by the sudden jolt of popping the clutch. If it is a broken spring, get it fixed quickly, other wise it can ruin you flywheel which isn't going to be fun to replace. |
